Overcoming an addiction and staying drug-free require a persistent effort. Learning new coping skills and knowing where to find help are essential. Pay attention to your mental health. Drug addiction is linked to a number of problems that may be helped with addiction therapy, including other underlying mental health concerns or marriage or family problems. Seeking addiction counseling in Southlake may help you regain your peace of mind and mend your relationships.

As part of a drug treatment program, I can do counseling with an individual, family or group. I can:

• Help you develop ways to cope with your drug cravings
• Suggest strategies to avoid drugs and prevent relapse
• Offer suggestions on how to deal with a relapse if it occurs
• Talk about issues regarding your job, legal problems, and relationships with family and friends
• Include family members to help them develop better communication skills and be supportive

Diagnosing drug addiction (also called substance use disorder) requires a thorough evaluation and includes an assessment.

I administer the SASSI – 3. The Adult Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory -3 identifies high or low probability of substance use disorder and provides meaningful clinical insight into the client. The SASSI-3 is a psychological questionnaire designed to screen individuals for substance use disorders (SUD). The SASSI includes both face valid and subtle items that have no apparent relationship to substance use. The subtle items are included to identify some individuals with alcohol and other drug problems who are unwilling or unable to acknowledge substance misuse or symptoms associated with it. Many diverse types of organizations including addictions treatment centers, criminal justice programs, hospitals, other health care organizations, and employee assistance programs currently use this instrument.

I perform a 10-page Drug and Alcohol Assessment. It addresses Dimension 2- Biomedical Conditions and Complications, Dimension 3- Emotional/ Behavioral/ Cognitive Conditions and Complications, Dimension 4- Readiness to Change, Dimension 5- Relapse History and Dimension 6- Recovery Environment.

I administer Urinary Drugs Screens. Urine tests are used to assess drug use, but they’re not a diagnostic test for addiction. These tests may be used for monitoring treatment and recovery.
